Ierofante is PARFUMS QUARTANA’s award-winning fragrance of ignition, ascent, and revelation. Its name is Italian for Hierophant: the revealer of sacred things.
Joseph Quartana imagined the perfume as an inward rocket journey — not an escape from earth, but a passage upward into the hidden star field of the self, where Elysium can be glimpsed and carried back into ordinary life.
The materials render the metaphor physically. Nutmeg sparks the trip. Suede is the spacesuit. Gasoline accord becomes the charged vapor of the launchpad. Pyrogenated styrax, frankincense, and smoky leather ignite the ascent. Amber, benzoin, myrrh, vetiver, and cashmeran create the arrival into heaven: golden, smoky, sweet, and strangely serene.
Ierofante also carries a current of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Like the Star Child returning transformed, Ierofante imagines ascent not as escape, but as return — bringing heaven back down to earth so the wearer can become more fully actualized, in order to realize their own Entelechy.
Joseph Quartana has described Ierofante as a fragrant breadcrumb trail back toward the glimpse of paradise he experienced during a near-death event.
In 2023, Ierofante won the Art & Olfaction Independent Category Award, one of independent perfumery’s respected juried prizes.
Ierofante begins with ignition: suede, gasoline accord, nutmeg, and pyrogenated styrax. The effect is combustible, but controlled — closer to a sacred engine starting than a gasoline stunt.
As the fragrance rises, smoky leather and frankincense turn the spark into ceremony. Amber, cashmeran, vetiver, myrrh, benzoin, and resin carry the scent into its arrival: smooth, sueded, quietly potent, and lit from within.
