When innocence turns to knowing.
White flowers behind a locked gate.
A floral veil with leather depth.
Lily of the Valley eau de parfum is the tension between purity and knowing — dewy cassis buds and neroli cascading into a bridal chorus of orange blossom, rose absolute, and jasmine. Then the turn: black leather gloves closing around the bouquet, labdanum and vetiver bourbon pulling white light into shadow. Innocence was never the point. What you carry now is.
“I get a light, fresh, loving, neroli with a touch of green that brightens up a nuanced, sparkling, slightly sweet lily of the valley, and a somber, refreshing, dewy jasmine.
Then a milky, sweetened, very smooth, glossy, shimmering vanilla, a blackened, brand new, aromatic jacket-leather, and a stubborn, delicate floral-tinged sandalwood.
Lily of the Valley is a very soft, very appealing, pretty white floral, with a touch of sweetness, and a citrusy, watery, unisex woodiness."
— The Scented Apprentice
Lily of the Valley historically symbolizes purity, innocence, and the return of happiness, with a rich history in folklore and magic. The flower is associated with luck and protection from evil, and is considered a feminine symbol of motherhood and chastity. Despite its beauty and symbolism, all parts of the lily of the valley plant are highly poisonous.
"There was an episode of TV's Breaking Bad where Walt used Lily of the Valley as a poison, leaving my jaw on the ground as firstly I had no idea a symbol of Spring happiness and renewal could, under the surface, be so acutely toxic to humans, and, secondly I was fascinated by the double aspect of its power and immediately thought Lily of the Valley as a poisonous flower could make for a riveting perfume, an innocent floral cast through an unexpected, jarring poisonous lens. This deceptive contrast inspired the collection to which it birthed and belongs to: Les Potions Fatales.
Lily of the Valley eau de parfum contrasts the virginal purity of neroli and rose with the roughshod darkness of black leather, a white wedding in Doc Martens, "yin-yangy", balanced contrast of white and black, refined vs. rough & tumble."
